SBS Plus's 'Time Tracker Sherlock' presented an exciting knowledge-tracking talk show, covering the mysteries of suspicious death cases that shook European royalty.
Episode 8 of SBS Plus’s “Time Tracker Sherlock,” which aired at 10:30 PM on the 1st, was conducted under the theme “Mysterious Royal Deaths: Between Rumors and Suspicions.” Comedian Im Woo-il, profiler Pyo Chang-won, and historian Park Jeong-gyu appeared together to uncover the real culprits in history, delivering both knowledge and entertainment.
The first case was the 'Kirk Orfield House Explosion,' which turned the Scottish royal family upside down about 400 years ago. When the body of Queen Mary's husband, Lord Darnley, was discovered in an orchard outside the building without major external injuries, Pyo Chang-won closely examined the condition of the body and raised the possibility of murder. Queen Mary, who had suffered from severe marital conflict with Lord Darnley, emerged as a prime suspect, and with the added suspicion of a murder conspiracy involving the Queen's closest confidant, the Earl of Bothwell, a heated battle of wits unfolded among the cast.
The second case involved the death of Don Carlos, the 16th-century Spanish Crown Prince. The father, Philip II, was forced to confine his only heir, and the suspicious death of Don Carlos, who died six months later, raised many questions. Pyo Chang-won analyzed Don Carlos’s history of abusing innocent servants and animals using modern criminal psychology, linking it to the characteristics of serial killers and emphasizing that it was a warning sign. Although the royal family officially announced his death as a natural death, the theory of poisoning emerged as Philip II kept the reason for his confinement a secret.
After reflecting on the tragic events that occurred while trying to maintain power, Im Woo-il shared his thoughts on the anxiety of those in authority. When Bong Tae-gyu and Jang Hang-jun pressed him, asking if he could set aside his popularity and retire to his hometown, Im Woo-il readily replied that he could. In response, Jang Hang-jun brought laughter by revealing his lighthearted determination to eliminate his juniors in order to hold onto his position to the very end.
