The Spark Fighters emerged victorious in a closely contested matchup against Dongguk University, a long-standing powerhouse in collegiate baseball.
In Episode 16 of the baseball entertainment show "Spark Baseball 2," released through Studio C1's official YouTube channel, the Spark Fighters engaged in a thrilling game against Dongguk University, a prestigious collegiate baseball program boasting 21 total wins in national tournaments, ultimately taking a 1-0 lead in a razor-thin competition.
Starting pitcher Lee Dae-eun cleanly retired the side in the top of the first inning, signaling a promising start. Dongguk University countered by taking their ace pitcher Lee Ye-hak to the mound. Table setter Jung Geun-woo drew a walk by laying off a high pitch from Lee Ye-hak, but the count increased after Jung Sung-hoon hit into a double play. Team captain Park Yong-taek followed with a hit to keep the offense alive, but the inning ended without a run as Lee Dae-ho flew out.
Lee Dae-eun continued with another clean strikeout in the top of the second inning, but in the top of the third, consecutive hits, a hit-and-run play, and a defensive error put the Spark Fighters in a critical situation with runners on first and third with two outs. It was shortstop Kim Jae-ho's stellar defensive play that saved the team from the brink of disaster.
After escaping the crisis, the Fighters mounted a comeback in the bottom of the third inning. Following a hard-fought battle, Choi Su-hyun and Kim Jae-ho drew consecutive walks to create a golden opportunity. Although a ground ball from Jung Geun-woo resulted in Kim Jae-ho being out, Jung Sung-hoon delivered a one-run sacrifice fly, bringing home Choi Su-hyun from third base and securing the valuable first run after an intense competition.
In the top of the fourth inning, consecutive hits put potential go-ahead runners on base, creating another critical moment. However, Lee Dae-eun calmly induced a double play in front of the shortstop and kept the runners from scoring, then struck out the next batter to solidly protect the mound.
Meanwhile, Episode 16 surpassed 100,000 concurrent viewers just 27 minutes after its release, proving its explosive popularity. Viewers praised the players' solid defense, quality pitching, and focused batting, showing enthusiastic responses.
