Actors Lee Ju-an and Jo A-ram step forward as the main characters who will cause a new ripple effect in a relationship that has lasted for 10 years.
KBS 2TV's new Saturday-Sunday miniseries 'Dating Other Than You' (directed by Hwang Seung-gi and Lee Ga-ram, written by Yoo Su-ji, produced by Unichem), which premieres on September 12, is a realistic melodrama that resonates with viewers about a couple in their 10th year of dating who face unfamiliar emotions after being used to each other.
Lee Joo-an plays Han Tae-seung, a bold lawyer who accurately targets the needs of Lee Mi-do (played by Ahn Eun-jin), while Jo Ah-ram plays Park Soo-ah, a junior colleague who approaches Namgung Ho (played by Seo Kang-joon) with a fluttering heart, creating an unfamiliar ripple effect in the familiar love of a couple in their 10th year.
Lee Ju-an was strongly drawn to Han Tae-seung, a professional character he had always wanted to take on, from the moment he encountered the role. Recalling their first meeting, he said, "I read the entire script in one sitting, making my worries seem pointless," adding that he felt a mix of anxiety and excitement about whether he could bring this charming character to life. Above all, the essence of Han Tae-seung that he discovered was a person yearning to be loved, hidden behind the facade of a cool-headed lawyer. He described him as a character who is not accustomed to opening his heart to others and who unilaterally pushes forward to get what he wants.
Lee Mi-do is the one who plunges into Han Tae-seung's solid world as an unexpected variable. Lee Joo-an described her as a great flood that broke down the fortress walls of Han Tae-seung's heart. Initially, he believes he can control her in his own way, but as he clashes with Lee Mi-do, who does not move as he intends, he experiences unfamiliar emotions and communication for the first time. Lee Joo-an explained that Lee Mi-do, for whom nothing goes his way, sparks interest and curiosity in Han Tae-seung, who has always believed he is the answer. His chemistry with Ahn Eun-jin also raises expectations. A behind-the-scenes anecdote about feeling comfortable acting because her lines sounded like real words at one point makes viewers look forward to the relationship between the two, which begins with a terrible first encounter and unfolds in an unpredictable direction.
The greatest weapon of Park Su-a, whom Jo A-ram will bring to life, is her honesty. Introducing her as "a friend with firm convictions who never gives up easily on something she sets her mind to and sees it through to the end," Jo A-ram cited her honest expression of emotions and thoughts without hiding them as her greatest charm. Park Su-a’s honesty—though sometimes clumsy, she is more sincere than anyone else in her heart—serves as an opportunity for Namgung Ho, who was accustomed to caring for those around him, to reflect on himself, whom he had failed to care for.
Therefore, Jo A-ram did not view the changes Park Soo-ah would bring to Namgoong Ho merely as a simple rift. Describing Park Soo-ah as "someone who recognizes Namgoong Ho's strengths and charms, and sees him as a cool person no matter what choices he makes," she pointed out that the biggest change Soo-ah brings to Namgoong Ho is a slight shift in how he views her. This means that he rediscovers his true self and value, which had been buried in familiarity while maintaining a long-term relationship with one person. Expectations are high, further amplified by the chemistry she shared with Seo Kang-joon, with whom she relied on each other on set during filming.
Han Tae-seung and Park Su-a, who entered daily life in different ways, open up the possibility of different romances and interestingly shake up the emotions of the four people. Lee Ju-an revealed that Han Tae-seung, who knows exactly what Lee Mi-do wants, is the most realistic character and is ultimately more honest than anyone else, while Jo A-ram also stated that it is a story that anyone who has deeply contemplated meeting someone can relate to.
