Netflix series 'Scandal' has released press stills, teasing the precarious relationship between three characters.
'Scandal' depicts a daring and dangerous love bet between Lady Cho (Son Ye-jin), a woman with extraordinary talents too refined to be confined to the life of a Joseon-era woman, and Cho Won (Ji Chang-wook), Joseon's greatest romantic, and the story of Hee-yeon (Nana) entangled in this bet.
The released stills capture the hidden desires and subtle relationships of the three people caught up in a secret wager. Lady Cho sitting in her chamber in modest attire, Cho Won gazing at her with a cunning expression, and Hee-yeon in shabby hemp clothing embroidering with a haggard face each reveal their circumstances.
Cousins Lady Cho and Cho Won are childhood pen pals who once shared their hearts through letters. As time passes, the unusual expressions of the two facing each other over a bet heighten curiosity about the events to come. Cho Won approaching Lady Cho dressed in an undergarment also sparks interest in how their relationship will change following the bet.
Cho Won approaching Hee-yeon to win the bet and Hee-yeon pushing him away are also captured. In particular, Cho Won's face drawing close as if to kiss hints at changes to come between the two. A scene showing Lady Cho and Hee-yeon together is also revealed, drawing attention to how Lady Cho will stir Hee-yeon's heart and how the relationship between the two will affect the bet.
The mise-en-scène, which highlights Korean aesthetics, also catches the eye. From bewitching hanbok that captures the character's essence to modern and original props and spaces that break away from traditional historical drama conventions, the unique atmosphere is complete.
'Scandal,' combining a classic story reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, Korean mise-en-scène, the ensemble of three actors, and the direction of director Jung Ji-woo who delicately portrays the characters' desires, will be released on Netflix on September 18.
