Actor Jung Il-woo has consistently extended a helping hand during times of disaster and crisis, maintaining a philanthropic commitment for over 18 years.
On the 2nd, Jung Il-woo donated emergency relief funds through the international relief and development NGO Good Neighbors, specifically earmarked for residents and children impacted by the severe floods in Nepal. These funds are designated for immediate recovery efforts and direct aid to the victims in the affected regions. Jung Il-woo expressed his hope that "this small contribution will reach those who lost their homes due to the sudden disaster, and that they can quickly regain their peaceful daily lives." He has also been inducted into 'The Neighbors Club,' Good Neighbors' exclusive group for major donors.
Jung Il-woo's philanthropic endeavors began early in his career. In November 2008, he partnered with the Babsang Community Charcoal Bank to visit Baeksa Village in Junggye Bon-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul, where he personally delivered "love briquettes" to underprivileged families, bringing warmth to the community. His charitable work extended internationally in March 2012, when he visited 'Miral,' a Korean-American organization for individuals with disabilities in New York, where he spent time with disabled children and presented them with a donation.
In April 2014, following the tragic Sewol Ferry disaster, Jung Il-woo donated 30 million won to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. He further demonstrated his solidarity by canceling his fan meeting schedule to express deep condolences to the victims' families and those lost. Later, in June 2017, while fulfilling his alternative military service as a public service worker, he contributed 20 million won to the Seocho-gu Public Senior Care Center, aiming to enhance welfare and treatment facilities. His exemplary conduct during his service earned him a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare.
In April 2019, Jung Il-woo donated 20 million won to Hope Bridge to aid victims of the devastating wildfires that swept through Goseong and Sokcho in Gangwon Province. Looking ahead, in December 2024, he plans to donate the full 10 million won profit from a charity bazaar he personally organized, dedicating it to cover treatment costs for children with rare and incurable diseases. Furthermore, in March 2025, he is slated to contribute 20 million won to the Korean Red Cross in response to a major wildfire.
His humanitarian efforts have also extended beyond Korea's borders. As a goodwill ambassador for the Korean Red Cross, Jung Il-woo is set to engage in educational outreach and provide relief supplies for underprivileged children alongside Youth Red Cross (RCY) members in Jakarta, Indonesia, in January 2025. Following this, in February, he plans to collaborate with RCY in Vietnam on projects aimed at improving health and hygiene, as well as fostering youth cultural exchange.
